Bad news for already owners of LG Optimus 3D Smartphone and discouraging new for prospective users, LG has tentatively indicated that it will not be ready with Gingerbread (Android 2.3, latest version of Android Mobile Operating System) upgrade for LG Optimus 3D Smartphone until October.

Currently LG Optimus 3D is running Android 2.2, which is popularly known as Froyo and users are eagerly waiting for upgrade to latest version, for which they still need to wait for three more months, which will be ten months after the availability of Gingerbread version of Android Operating System, by which Google may announce Android 2.4, next version of Android Operating System and code named as Ice Cream Sandwich. In other words, immediately after getting upgrade for Gingerbread, LG Optimus 3D owners have to start waiting for next version upgrade. October timeframe is for UK users, users from other countries may have to go through even longer waiting times before they could see the upgrade over their phones. This may indirectly help the sales of HTC’s Evo 3D, which comes with 3D feature and ships with Gingerbread version of Android.

Padphone prototype from Asus
Jun 22nd, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

Asus prototype Padfone

Asus has recently unveiled twin devices, a 4-inch Android Smartphone and a 10-inch tablet display, as a prototype.

Both the devices are married to each other and like any other couple, one of them is dumb and the other active. The 4-inch Android based phone is the active device, which does all intelligent tasks, while 10-inch tablet is just a display extension to this cute little one. This tablet is basically a processor less device, the whole purpose of which is to only display contents of Smartphone hence needs larger screen. However it does have a front facing camera to support video calls.

Asus likely named this hybrid combo as Padphone and has unveiled it in Computex 2011, an event which happened in Taipei on Monday. The tablet has a docking station to dock the Smartphone, which provides this big brother with processing power to function through little one. With this docking station at the back of tablet, it looks bulky. Howevr, the combo is a good idea, where user can carry this device in the pocket, while keeping the bulky one in a backpack and can unpack, whenever there is a need for bigger screen.

Other than these technical details, not much information is available, except that it may be available in markets by Q4 of 2011. Let us wait for this combo to come onto retail shelves before we can comment on its acceptability.

HTC Sensation review
May 30th, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

HTC Sensation

The latest android phone from the HTC, Sensation, has been launched exclusively through Vodafone in UK (We, at Mobile hub, have updated you with that news – as always). The Android 2.3.3 running Sensation which has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 4.3” display is the very latest phone to catch attention. So, we thought to review it for you.

Sensation is an important release from the HTC stable but it feels pretty similar to the previous devices in the Android range from HTC. The consensual impression is that Sensation is like a big Desire S with a few modified touches in design and heavier than the Galaxy S II. However, it certainly scores marks as a friendly, familiar model.

The dual-LED flash and the camera sensor add to the features of Sensation giving it a better feel. Also adding to the feel quotient is the exterior that gives it a tougher, more rigid and curved feel than its predecessors.

The screen is a whopping 4.3” one but that doesn’t make the Sensation look bulky. It certainly is slimmer than the Desire HD and almost same in size of Desire.  Sense has been upgraded to 3.0 and the new interactive lock screen gives it a classy touch for the customers.

Overall, Sensation scores on more number of features making it truly a wonderful sensation to have the same. So much can be said about the market reception from the fact that the competitor service providers have already lined up Sensation in the coming months.

Motorola Xoom WiFi only 32 GB
May 12th, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

The Motorola Xoom

Motorola  Xoom WiFi only 32 GB  version of Motorola Android 3.0 tablet is doing rounds in UK market. It is one of the fastest moving tablet PC in UK market.

It is definitely a fastest moving Tablet in UK market, with its eye catching design and colors. Its metal casing in grey and black colors coupled with Motorola brand is appealing factor and main reason for its success. One most noticeable feature is its weight. Current model under review (Motorola Xoom WiFi only 32 GB) weighs around 716g, though it is 100 grams more than current Apple iPad 2, is light when compared to other Tablets available in market.

Another remarkable feature is its battery life. Under laboratory testing, it proves to be lasting for more than 12 hours with HD video playing unlike other Tablets, which requires Docking units to be connected to stay live for such a long times. Power button for Motorola Xoom is placed near camera which provides with considerable number of chances of getting switched off accidentally.

With all other features which are expected out of any Tablet PC, it makes to be one of the fastest moving Tablets in the market.

Dell Venue Pro – New kid in the market
May 9th, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

Dell Venue Pro, which was announced in last October, has gone through a lot of back and forth reasons for several delays and finally is available in market to compete with several other new comers in market. But from the time Venue pro is planned and by the time it is released, features (which are exciting at that time) have become obsolete now.

Dell Venue Pro is the only Windows Phone 7 handset available in the market with slide-out QWERTY key pad, which gives an impression of Business Oriented Smartphone. But really Dell Venue Pro is not.

Dell Venue Pro with 4.1 inches diagonally wide Touch Screen and weighing about 192 g is quite heavy in comparison to its peers in market. It is bit bulky to handle it with single handed. Though Window Phone 7 supports 480 X 800 pixel, Venue Pro AMOLED Screen enhances picture quality.

Processing wise too, Dell Venue Pro is little slow, when compared to its peers in market. While new kids in market are coming with Dual Core processors, Dell Venue Pro is built on Single Core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor.

While it has all other features, which are expected out of a Smartphone, its pricing makes it to be one of the attractive releases in the market. SIM free version of Venue Pro is available at £420 in UK.
