3 prices up Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

The gaming phone from Sony Ericsson, Xperia Play is now being offered by Three network though it does not seem cheap.

The handset is available for £35 per month on a 2 year contract and comes with 5000 texts, 500 minutes and 1GB data usage. However, you would have to shell out another £99 upfront for the handset and that means a bigger hole in your pocket.

In summary, the TCO (total cost of ownership) would be £939 and that sounds quite an expensive deal for a gaming phone compared to the handhelds. The handset is a SmartPhone as well but it has no 3D gaming.

Another plan available is the One Plan deal where the monthly tariff would be £40 but you would still have to pay £49 upfront. The package however gets a lot more in 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, and unlimited data usage.

With a sequel to Sony PSP on the cards later this year, the Xperia Play has an uphill task to stay on and win the battle against other such gaming gadgets. How it fares is something we all need to wait and watch.
