HD Voice: Tall claims from Orange fall flat
September 2nd, 2010 by Dipak Sarda

A new call-enhancing feature, the HD Voice is on the cards from the mobile phone provider Orange. However, a few handsets will be supporting this feature for the time being.

The feature has already been tested in September 2009 across Europe and UK trials have been started in June 2010 with an assurance of virtually eliminating the gap between callers.

Orange made the announcement in December 2009 itself that it will be offering HD voice to its users by working closely with major mobile phone makers.

However, Orange has listed only three devices so far viz., Nokia X6, Nokia E5 and Nokia 5230 which are said to support HD Voice as well as minimise the background noise. Unfortunately, it could not even keep its promise of delivering eight handsets featuring HD Voice in H1 of 2010.

There is a catch to this albeit. The HD experience is possible between two persons only if both the mobile phones are HD Voice compatible handsets over Orange. 3G will be a pre-requisite for the service to work and it can be turned on by a simple update at the base station.
