Rumour mills till yesterday were agog that Sony is coming up with a tablet PC to make a foray into the burgeoning Tablet space and it has now been confirmed thanks to a confirmation from the CEO of the technology heavyweight that Sony will launch its own tablet by end of summer.

As per a report in Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper, the Google Android 3.0 powered gadget will see the end of the light in the US market first.

Sony earlier refrained from announcing any plans to launch a tablet though rivals like Samsung and LG had already jumped into the Apple iPad dominated tablet market space.

Codenamed as S1, the Sony tablet is reportedly going to have a lip resembling a rolled newspaper. The tablet will be powered by a Tegra 2 chip, or rather the new Quad-core Tegra chip given the fact that the launch is towards summer end.

The tablet which will run on the tablet-only Android OS, Honeycomb will come loaded with Sony’s own media streaming service apart from Google’s music service. We could as well see the PlayStation Suite on the tablet the way it is seen on Xperia Play.
