LG Optimus 3D

Coming close on the heels of Nintendo’s 3DS is the release of LG Optimus 3D – the first mobile phone with a glasses-free 3D display.

The Optimus 3D is relatively chunky compared to Galaxy S2 sporting a massive 4.3 inch parallax barrier-covered display. The phone sports a special key for the phone’s three dimensional options – games, video and 3D options for the dual lens camera.

The 3D effect works pretty well – no great deal of crosstalk or ghosting, which is often the case with 3D displays. However, the down side is that the sweet spot for viewing the effect is extremely small.

There is no proper tie-up from the end of LG with any movie service. This meant that the available 3D films are restricted pretty much to trailers and You Tube’s 3D channel as of now.

The camera adds a bit of zing to the phone. There is a sense of depth in the videos but images are a bit dim. The best example of the phone features can be gauged from the pre-loaded games with the shooter NOVA 3D showcasing the added depth.

The overall feel is that the phone is a good model but the selling points are more gimmicky and less essential.
