Nokia going soft?

If reports are to be believed, yes! Nokia is reportedly in talks with Microsoft about deploying Windows 7 on Nokia smart phones. Nokia’s new CEO is a former head of Microsoft’s business division – some say, this brought a relative ease for all the talks.

However, it must be pointed that the Finnish giant has unequivocally rubbished such claims when they initially emerged in September. Nokia tried to tone down those rumors by pressing its commitment to Series 40, Symbian and MeeGo.

With a race that is turning out to be tougher than expected, Nokia is looking for a foothold in the smart phone market against the Android-running devices. With Apple iphone turning up as well, analysts believe Nokia might be well served having Android in its stable.

Nokia, however, strongly insists in the future being of MeeGo as well as Symbian – irrespective of the fact that Samsung and Sony Ericsson have recently dropped support for the OS. Even the Symbian Foundation scaled back its support for the OS but Nokia responded with renewed support.

The battle lines are drawn. It remains to be seen whether Nokia would call bluff and support Symbian or would enroll a new platform. Whatever it may turn out to be, Mobile hub would be your hub to know all the latest!
