Olympic phone from Samsung

To capitalize grand Olympics event to be conducted in London next year, Samsung is planning to release a special phone for the event, called Samsung Olympic and Paralympic Games. This phone comes with contactless payments using visa technology as its signature feature.

It enables Contactless payments using Near Field Communication (NFC), short range gateway technology, via Visa gateways, which will allow doing payments across 60,000 locations in London without any kind of card or currency or contact. Usage of NFC for data exchange, being pilot during the Olympic season, will be rolled out across the world following that. This dream of wide range acceptance of this new payment technology is at least a year away at this point of time. Samsung is planning to introduce this technology in its all range of phones in future. Apple may soon follow Samsung to implement this feature in its iPhone.

Though not much information is available about this feature, this phone coverage will not be available on London’s Tube within this Olympics timeframe. Though there were attempts made to make it available, it did not went through after collapse of talks, which is believed due to Funding issues.
