Citing new Ofcom regulations which make calls from landlines to mobiles cheaper, Vodafone and Orange announce price rise for their PAYG services.

Orange will hike the call rate from 20p to 25p per minute while texts will be charged 12p instead of the earlier 10p starting this Friday. Vodafone hikes will take effect from 14th July and the call price will be up from 21p to 25p per minute while the text pricing will be 12p per text.

O2, T Mobile, and 3 do not seem to have any plans to hike their PAYG prices, however. Despite that, the price hike by Orange and Vodafone would still keep all of them in the same range instead of being any higher.

Vodafone made a mention of cut in mobile termination rates as the reason for the price hike. Since April 2011, there has been a cut in MTRs and that reduces the price of landline to mobile calls. TalkTalk and BT started offering cheaper LL to mobile calls.
