Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1

The When will be the launch of Samsung Galaxy 8.9 would be answered shortly. After the launch of its Galaxy Tab 10.1, the focus is on the 8.9 which could make its way to the market as early as next week. This could set the ball rolling for Samsung in the market.

If the rumors are anything to go by, the company would be offering the 3G version on a pre-order for £605. The reports are yet to be confirmed by Samsung officially.

Blackberry’s plans to take on competition
Aug 3rd, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

RIM Logo

Blackberry seems to set things moving in its efforts to take on iPhone and the success of Android smart phones.

The latest move spearheaded by the launch of five new handsets including Blackberry Torch 9850 and 9860 is an attempt in this direction. The all-new all-touch design includes the largest display ever on a Blackberry smart phone.

Reports suggest that that there is so much of excitement in Research In Motion (RIM) where the belief is that these powerful new smart phones would thrill customers with enriched mobile experiences.

Blackberry has packed these latest models with new electronics, a new processor. Also coming as part of the set up is the new software – OS 7 which as per claims is 100% faster than earlier phones.

Another important feature added to these new models is the near field communication – which gives the prospect of cashless transactions with the mere swipe of the phone as a card.

It is but obvious that there is so much pressure on RIM. There are job losses around the world and the march of the Android devices and iPhone has increased the stakes for Blackberry. It remains to be seen if these models help Blackberry gain the market.

Now grab the LG Optimus 2X for just £290
Aug 2nd, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

LG Logo

LG Optimus 2X, LG’s first Dual Core Processor based Smartphone created waves as the cheapest dual core smartphone available on the market after its availability being listed on Expansys for £299.95.

Additionally, you can still reduce this price by another tenner using the code EXP10. The original price of the Optimus 2X was £450 which shows a significant price cut of about 38 per cent.

This Android based super handset has many firsts to its credits. It is the first handset with dual core technology to be unveiled at CES 2011 in Las Vegas this year. This dual core technology makes LG Optimus 2X to be the first phone to support videos with a resolution of 1080 pixels, which any other single core based phone cannot support.

However, there are at least two features where the Smartphone does not quite fit the bill. The handset has just 512MB RAM and it sports Android 2.2 aka Froyo.

Coming to other specs of the device, it is powered an Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC clocked at 1GHz, Content Mirroring through its HDMI interface, 1080p HD video playback and recording along with a number of sensors. It also boasts 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, DLNA compatibility, an 8MP camera with LED flash as well as a front 1.3MP camera, a 1600mAh battery, microUSB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Apple iPhone 5 in October
Aug 2nd, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

iPhone 5

The anxiety and excitement over the iPhone 5 release continued to ebb in the market with the latest rumor that the release would be in October. This is in sharp contrast to the earlier reports which put down the release date as September 5. If these reports are anything to go by, the excitement would have to be put on hold for an additional month.

These reports also put the blame squarely on the earlier report stating that it was purely misinformed sources that put the release date as September 5. The report doesn’t rule out a formal announcement from Apple in September followed by the launch in October.

It’s but common that Apple products always generate so much of speculation. A certain part of this can be attributed to the fact that the company rarely talks about future products. It is no hidden fact that there is so much of craze for Apple products.

Adding fuel to the rumors has been the fact that there was no new iPhone in June. The previous versions of this model have been announced at WWDC, Apple’s annual developer’s conference. Bucking the trend, this year featured no new phone.

Even though there is no information on how the new model would be, it is assumed that the next iPhone would feature the same faster processor as the iPad 2, a better camera augmented by a larger screen and a curved back.

Only time and Mobile hub would be able to tell how things pan out vis-à-vis iPhone. Stay glued!

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get Gingerbread update
Aug 1st, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

Xperia X10Android 2.3 gingerbread

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 was launched last year with Android OS 1.6 (Donut). It had come a long way since then. The smartphone now not only supports Eclair but also Gingerbread.

Finally, the much awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is all set to be rolled out for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. However, the company could not reveal an exact date of the roll out.

It is being reported that the X10 users cannot get the Gingerbread update over-the-air (OTA). As such to install the update, users need to connect their handsets to a PC and then run Sony Ericsson’s PC Companion software.

Bundled with the Gingerbread update are tighter Facebook integration, a Wi-Fi hotspot as well as tethering feature. The Backup and Restore app as well as Mediascape will be removed from the handset by this update. Users will also be able to enjoy horizontal app tray along with media widgets.

It offers some great features combined with matching specifications. Storage capabilities include a 384MB RAM and 1 GB onboard storage. The 4 inch OLED capacitive screen was the highest screen resolution (480×854 pixels) offered by any smartphone at the time of launch.

Following the trend, it can support 32GB microSD cards, Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radio and DLNA. Good camera resolution of 8 megapixel with LED flash and AF should suffice.

Aug 1st, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

HTC Evo 3D

All those who have been waiting to lay their hands on the new HTC Evo 3D smartphone will have to wait for some more time as the release date of the handset has been postponed till September.

The Taiwanese company HTC has revealed about the delay being made in the release of its first ever glasses-free 3D handset. The UK release of the smartphone which was originally scheduled to be launched by the end of July has now been postponed to September.

HTC announced that UK customers can grab the HTC Evo 3D from September 2011 through Carphone Warehouse. However, no reason has been mentioned by the company for the two month delay being made in the release of the device.

Network provider Vodafone has to drop its decision of offering the handset as a result of this delay. Finally, it has removed the device from the list of its upcoming smartphone range.

Coming to the specs of the HTC Evo 3D, it sports a 4.3 inch qHD stereoscopic display and a 5 megapixel camera having 720p high definition video recording. The handset which is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Pay monthly combo and Prepay plans from T-Mobile
Aug 1st, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

T-Mobile Logo

Wondering if you could get the control and flexibility of a prepaid plan combined with the benefits of a monthly payment option? A new tariff plan, ‘You Fix’ launched by T-Mobile is the way to go.

Users signing up this contract get a set of minutes and texts apart from a flexible booster for a fixed monthly outlay for a one year contract. The boosters can help you flex your muscles in case you need more.

As an example, you get 75 minutes and 75 texts for £15.50. You can otherwise choose to go for 100 minutes and 100 texts for $£20.50 or for 300 minutes and texts for £26 per month.

T-Mobile says that almost half the youth who don’t currently have a Smartphone intend to lay their hands on one and this demand is the reason behind the new plan. Users can pick from a variety of BlackBerry and Android handsets too for a small upfront payment.

This is a great plan for those parents who would love not to be surprised with huge bills at the end of the month and rather control the mobile bills upfront for their young children.

Nokia’s first 1 Ghz model

Nokia-500-Symbian-Anna

The Finnish mobile giant Nokia has unveiled its foray into the 1 GHz mobile handsets with Nokia 500. The handset powered by Symbian Anna is touted to lift Nokia.

The handset features a 3.2 inch nHD capacitive touch screen and a resolution of 640 X 360p. The handset which comes equipped with 2 GB internal storage and a 1 GHz processor comes up at just 14.1 mm thickness. This processor is the fastest that any handset from Nokia has ever been part of!

Touted to be focused at the entry-level smart phone market, the Nokia 500 handset has been priced at a pre-tax €150 (£130) price tag. The release date of the model has not been announced yet but it has been earmarked for an August or September UK release date.

The latest offerings from Nokia may have sparked a debate as to whether the manufacturer is planning to move away from the Symbian OS. The recently unveiled Nokia N9 is powered by MeeGo and the company’s first Windows Phone 7 handset may have stepped up the doubters. However, the unveiling of 500 shows that the Symbian OS hasn’t yet left the stable of Nokia.

Will 500 be the saving grace for the Symbian? Will there be a change in the fortunes of Nokia? Tweet your views and stay tuned to know more!

The white Samsung Galaxy S2 has been promised this September by the Korean mobile phone major and the pics on the internet support that.

Clove, an online retailer posted 15th August as the launch date for the ivory edition of Samsung Galaxy S2 but that date will have to be pushed by a few weeks.

Having already clocked up 5 million units in sales even before the US launch, the Galaxy S2 has nothing left to prove; however the white version will have its own speciality and we need to see how it does.

The white version is no different from the black one in terms of software or hardware.

The Galaxy S II is slimmer, lighter and faster. It is a mere 8.49mm thick, weighs only 116g and has a huge 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen.

The device comes pre-loaded with the latest Google operating system – Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Also bungled are a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. And of course adding value is an 8MP camera capable of recording HD 1080p video.

Facebook phone named 555 Blue from Vodafone
Jul 27th, 2011 by Dipak Sarda

Vodafone 555 Blue Vodafone logo

A new Smartphone with a special Facebook button, 555 Blue was announced by Vodafone today. It looks quite similar to the HTC ChaCha handset as they share the same colour scheme and looks apart from the Facebook button.

The handset is reportedly manufactured by Alcatel which is famous for providing street-smart mobile phones with features and functions albeit at a low price. The handset is actually a joint venture between TCL communications China and Alcatel-Lucent and in that sense it needs to compete with Huawei or ZTE which fall in the same league.

It is said that the handset will be sold in most of Vodafone regions. It has a 2MP camera and a 2.4-inch screen ( sans the touch ). There is no 3G or Wi-Fi though it has Opera Mini browser which comes with its compression capabilities thus enabling faster web access while saving bandwidth.

The Vodafone 555 Blue is expected to be around £60 in the UK and thus it will compete with Orange Barcelona, LG Cookie Fresh, LG Viewty Snap, and SE Xperia X8.
