3 UK, Talkmobile and T-Mobile have now got one thing in common. They all have got “unlimited” mobile data contracts in some sense.

T-Mobile has joined the bandwagon this week by providing the package to existing and new customers shelling out £25.54 or more on mobile contracts every month.

Customers can verify if they are already eligible for the package or not with T-Mobile. They can otherwise purchase the package for an additional £5.10 per month similar to existing booster price from T-Mobile.

T-Mobile will make available the deal only between 1st July and 30th September probably to gauge the customers’ reaction apart from having a reality check to see if it can live with the surge in data usage.

T-Mobile has excluded Voice over IP and tethering from the contract and thus stopped away from providing a “truly unlimited” internet package. As of today, only 3 UK through its “The One” plan offers unlimited data including tethering and VoIP. This plan gets 2000 minutes, 5000 3 to 3 minutes, 5000 texts apart from unlimited data for £25.

3 UK offers another PAYG unlimited data plan for £15 per month which excludes tethering. Talkmobile also does not provide tethering and VoIP in its unlimited data packages.

HTC Desire HD users of 3 UK were up to a pleasant surprise when they got message from the mobile phone carrier that they would soon get an upgrade to Android 2.2 over-the-air.

The upgrade from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3 will bring some minor functionalities. We are not clear if it is going to be v2.3.3 or v2.3.4 and there is no clarity if other providers are going to provide upgrade soon.

3 UK earlier denied providing Gingerbread to HTC Desire HD but it seems to have struck some compromise formula with HTC and thus agreed for the upgrade.

The 164g weighing Desire HD handset sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 1GHz processor, a 264K colour LCD display of 4.3 inch, 768MB of RAM and 8MP camera. It also allows the users to wirelessly transfer video to other device.

The Desire HD has been popular similar to its brother Desire thanks to affordable contract pricing and its large screen.

Optimus one 3 Mobile

3 UK came up with a better deal than those from T-Mobile for the LG Optimus One as it offered a 24-month contract for £15 per month.

The Internet Talker 300 tariff provides 500 MB internet, 300 minutes or texts, 5000 Three to Three minutes, unlimited Skype, Twitter and Windows Live Messenger usage, and free Voice mail. At this price slot, the handset has an array of competitors in the HTC Wildfire, the Nokia E5, and the Samsung Galaxy Portal.

If you want to grab it on PAYG, the handset is up for grabs from 3 UK at £175, almost half the price of high-end handsets like Samsung Galaxy S or the HTC Desire.

The LG Optimus One is bundled with a 3.2 inch wide HVGA capacitive touchscreen, a 3MP camera, a 600MHz processor, a microSD card slot up to 32GB and a long lasting battery supporting up to 450 minutes of talk time.

T-Mobile, Orange, 3 UK, and Vodafone are offering the Android powered LG Smartphone at the moment and O2 is thus the only one yet to confirm the sale of LG Optimus One.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Mobile

The Samsung Galaxy tab, a rival to the Apple iPad, is already on its way to land the UK market this quarter. 3 UK is geared up to sell the world’s largest smartphone on its airwaves. However, it did not reveal much details regarding the availability and pricing of the tablet.

3 UK will be offering the SIM-only voice as well as data packages for the Galaxy Tab. You need to shell out £10 to go with the cheapest offer from 3 mobile which will provide you with 100 any network minutes, 3000 texts, 2000 3-to-3 minutes along with 1GB data allowance. An additional fiver will triple your call minutes.

Users can also go with the data packages which cost £7.5 per month for 1GB and just £15 for 5GB if they want to use the Galaxy Tab just as a tablet but not as a smartphone.

However, it is yet to be decided if the Galaxy Tab will be sold by 3 UK as a PAYG model or if it will be offered on contract basis in the days ahead.

Also, as per press release from 3 UK, the tablet would sport a 1.2GHz processor instead of 1GHz as specified earlier by Samsung. The tablet however seems to cost quite a fortune with the SIM-Free unlocked version priced at £608. This comes as a dampener as Apple iPad has got things at a cheaper price.

ZTE Racer, the cheapest Android touchscreen handset has been landed in the market by 3 UK, the smallest independent carrier of UK.

The Racer, manufactured by the Chinese company ZTE is offered on contract deal of £13 per month. This is the first Android based device to be offered on PAYG for less than £100.

Mobile phone operators Orange and T-Mobile have already been selling cheaper touchscreen handsets. However, all those devices are powered by entry level operating systems like the Qualcomm Brew.

The ZTE Racer sports a 2.8 inch touchscreen display with a display capacity of 320×240 pixels, a 3.2 megapixel camera without flash and HSDPA connectivity.

The handset is powered by Android 2.1 OS and has no customised user interface. It also comes with a microSD card up to 2GB. As such, the users will not have any dependency on the manufacturer to upgrade their handsets.

For £18 per month, Internet Talker 900 provides 900 calls or texts and 1GB of data. iPhone 4 Tariffs Unveiled Finally from 3 UK

Apple iphone 4 3 Mobile

Lot many factors are to be taken into consideration while buying an iPhone 4. It all depends on whether you opt to pay less for the handset and more on monthly contract or shell out more on the iPhone and less monthly.

With three major network carriers viz. Vodafone, Orange and O2 unveiling their tariff plans, now 3 is geared up to throw its hat into the ring. The smallest of UK’s mobile carriers, 3 UK is the last one to announce its tariffs for the iPhone 4 as it wants to compete the best with its rivals in terms of package and cost.

3 UK is said to be in direct talks with Apple in order to offer the best and cheapest tariffs to its UK customers. It is following a similar trick which it played to introduce the iPad package earlier with a monthly package of 10GB for just £15.

It was even reported earlier that iPhone smartphones were being offered surreptitiously to some 3 UK customers so that they don’t switch to other networks. However, 3 is currently inviting parties so as to register their interest on 3 UK website. The interesting thing is that the most expensive current 3 UK tariff of £30 a month happens to be less than the cheapest iPhone 4 contract on the market.

Network Rehaul by 3 UK & T-Mobile to cost £400 million

T-Mobile Logo 3 Mobile

3 UK, the Hutchinson Whampoa enterprise and T-Mobile owned by Deutsche Telekom confirmed the choice of NSN (Nokia Siemens Networks) as the prime contractor for improvement of infrastructure at MBNL (Mobile Broadband Network Limited), their joint venture.

The contract valued at £400 million will help both the companies in significant enhancement of their coverage up to 98% while it will also help them provide a better 3G experience to the customers by 2010 end.

It was in 2007, that MBNL got its wings so as to provide a boost to the efficiency of the two smallest independent cellular network players by sharing capital and operating costs. The expectation from the companies is that around 5500 3G sites would be consolidated and 3000 others would be taken off by the end of this year.

Together they have 12500 sites and once the consolidation is over, they look forward to save tens of millions of pounds.

MBNL which can become the largest HSPDA network in Europe has even reaffirmed that the ongoing merger between T-Mobile and Orange would not have any impact on it. But analysts believe that it would be tough time ahead for MBNL given the fact that Orange and T-Mobile are going to be one soon.
