Dell Streak can now be bought for just £399 from Telefonica on PAYG and the availability of Android 2.2 aka Froyo on the tablet sounds like a topping on the cake.

You can however get the tablet unlocked from Dell Direct too, for the same price which includes delivery and VAT making it cheaper by £50 compared to the original price. And yes, Dell sells a home dock solution and a car docking kit either of which are not there with O2.

And if you can spend another £5, you would get an additional 12 month warranty thus making it a better option to buy the 16GB model from Dell.

In contrast the 32GB version of Dell Streak is cheaper by £30 when compared to the offering from Dell. Given the 5-inch size, the Dell Streak is the largest tablet which can fit easily into a pocket.

The 5-inch Dell Streak Tablet-cum-Smartphone was released in the UK in June on O2’s airwaves with Google’s Android 1.6 OS. It was then upgraded to Android 2.1 aka Eclair. However, it was not able to view the web in full while devices which use Froyo are able to do so, thanks to Flash support.

The Dell Streak is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash having a front and back lens, a 5-inch 800×480 pixel screen and multitouch functions.

The handset which is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor comes with an in built Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity along with 2GB of data storage and 30-pin docking connector.

At last, Dell announced that the Dell Streak Tablets powered by Google’s Android platform will get upgraded to Froyo aka Android 2.2, the latest version in the market. This update will happen for the users in the UK this month thus bringing the tablets on par with Japan’s Froyo 5” tablet phone.

This date however is specific to the UK and the other countries of the EU (European Union) will soon get to know the release date in their geographies.

The release planned using the Continue with Update button is in doldrums as the button is not yet working and is expected to work for Android 2.2 download with some tweak to the button. Streak Smart news releases should help you get to know more about these updates. Despite the fact that the updates are out, locked devices will need to wait till December for the Froyo.
