HTC Hero to be Blessed with Android 2.1 update
Jul 29th, 2010 by Dipak Sarda

HTC Hero Android 2.1

Having done the integration of the HTC Desire and Nexus One with SLCD displays, HTC is found to be in high spirits. HTC is now concentrating on its smartphone, the HTC Hero. The HTC Hero is all set to be upgraded with the Android 2.1 version also known as Eclair for Orange customers.

It has been confirmed by Orange that HTC Hero handsets will get the first part of its two-stage update to Android 2.1 in the first week of August. HTC apologises for making the Orange Hero customers wait for a long time to receive the Eclair update.

The company opines that the delay took place as testing the update across European markets took more time than assumed. The company is hopeful to receive final approval by this weekend and assures that the 2.1 update will be rolled out in the coming week.

The Eclair update is expected to bring an array of new features and applications to the HTC Hero on Orange network such as additional home screens, live wallpaper, support to multiple email accounts and HTC Sense user interface. Users can experience faster connection to other devices as well.

However, delays in the update had no adverse effect on the Android’s growing popularity in the UK. Availability and downloading details are yet to be unveiled.

Here comes some exciting news for the HTC Hero users as the long-awaited update to Android 2.1 is now available to download for those with unlocked handsets in the UK.

As of now, the update is available only to users having unlocked, SIM-free phones rather than phones available from Three and Orange on contract. Hopefully, phones available on contract will not have to wait too long for the update given the fact that the unlocked phones are blessed with the update now.

GSM Hero users will get HTC notifications regarding the availability of update to 2.1 as per reports. The download size of the update is about 80MB which apparently works without any problems.

However, two updates will be required to fully update your Hero. As the second update which is data-heavy will clean your phone, it is suggested to go with the 30-day free trial of MyBackup Pro which will save all your settings, text messages and apps.

Lot many exciting treats will be bundled with the update like those being enjoyed by the HTC Desire users including native Exchange support. As such one can check the Outlook emails without the need of a separate app installation. So, just keep your fingers crossed and wait for the update notification from HTC.
