Come next week, some of the Motorola Milestone users in UK will have a reason to celebrate as Motorola starts to roll out Android 2.2 (Froyo). Motorola made this announcement from its Facebook page that some of the European customers would get the updates next week.

Despite the fact that Froyo has been around for months, Motorola wants to run the upgrade through a trial by launching it on select users’ handsets before the proper update gets rolled out by 2010 end to all. This trial is intended to assess any pending work for optimisation of the upgrade before approval.

The user community left indifferent comments on the Facebook page and they seem to be unhappy as some of them expected the upgrade to reach them months ago. However, the fact is that there are very few handsets with Froyo in the market like the Google N1 and the HTC Desire.

Back in August, Motorola had to resort to send out letters to websites which offered Froyo download for its handsets to stay away from the activity. We can only keep our fingers crossed and wait for things to go positive.

Milestone may not be upgraded with Android 2.2

Here comes some disappointing news for the Motorola users. Milestone which is the European version of the Motorola’s Droid smartphone might not be upgraded with the much awaited Google’s Android 2.2 OS, otherwise known as Froyo according to Softpedia, a technology news site.

The marketing director for Motorola Europe, James King in response to queries about a Motorola software update made it clear that decision regarding the update is pending.

He said that discussions are still going on among the top company officials about bringing the update. He also said that deploying Android 2.2 technology is not an easy task to be undertaken. He further opines that upgrades are not like a walk in the park. Instead, this whole job demands proper planning and resource along with third party coordination.

As of now, nothing has been revealed by the company regarding Milestone’s upgradation to the Froyo operating system. This seems to sound strange as Motorola Droid, the US version of the phone is said to be receiving an update.

All in all, Motorola customers got upset with this statement as it has been long time they have been waiting for the update to come. However, other mobile manufacturers seem to take advantage of this opportunity by bringing this technology first on their handsets. As of now, Nexus One is the one to be blessed with Android 2.2 OS.

The much-awaited Android 2.1 upgrade to Motorola MileStone is available now as per Motorola’s announcements on the Facebook fan page. There are an array of new additions in features, security improvements, compatibility improvements to support latest apps, and performance enhancements.

The official post thanked all the users of Motorola Milestone in the UK for their patience. The release also expects that the users would have fun with new enhancements like Speech-to-Text, an array of 9 home screens, additional security for those who interact with exchange servers, and Live wallpapers.

Having said all that, the onus will continue to fall on Motorola because of Android 2.2 being around the corner. We hope that Motorola doesn’t  stay back from rolling out upgrade to Android 2.2 as soon as the OS is released by Google so that the users get to use the latest in the market.

High-end Android is the buzzword these days and Motorola does not want to be left behind in the race only to catch up with competition later. The fact that Motorola is launching umpteen numbers of handsets over the last few months does not seem to have any adverse effect on its support to the older devices.

The most advanced mobile phone from Motorola’s stable so far, the Milestone is now available on PAYG prices in the UK.

It was on Orange that the Motorola Milestone got launched in January 2010. The handset was then offered SIM-free by O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. Now that it is available as Pay as You Go mobile Phone, it is just Virgin Mobile and 3 who are left out.

Android 2.1 has got nice features like interactive wallpapers. For those who own Motorola Milestone in Europe, the upgrade to Android 2.1 is on its way within few days.

Motorola offers 22,000 new Android based applications in domains like news, weather, games, music and satellite navigation.

The fact that Motorola is launching umpteen numbers of handsets over the last few months does not seem to have any adverse effect on its support to the older devices.

Motorola Milestone was launched only towards the fag end of 2009 and it is not too old in the mobile phone market as such. However the fact that it was released on Android 2.0 doesn’t augur too well and Motorola wants to bridge that gap.

Android 2.1 has got nice features like interactive wallpapers. For those who own Motorola Milestone in Europe, the upgrade to Android 2.1 is on its way within few days.

Hong Kong and Macau markets have been the first ones to get it and if you cannot really wait, you can tweak your mobile and download the update. Even otherwise, you’ll be able to experience a faster and slicker Moto Milestone by Easter.
